Adding managed services to your Data Mammoth VPS gives you access to professional server administration, proactive monitoring, and expert support. This guide walks you through the process of requesting and activating managed services for your server.
How to Enable Managed Services
For an Existing Server
Alternatively, submit a support ticket requesting managed services:
For a New Server
When ordering a new server:
Your new server will be provisioned with managed services already activated.
Onboarding Process
After managed services are activated, our team begins the onboarding process:
Step 1 — Initial Assessment
Our engineers log in to your server and perform a comprehensive assessment:
- Operating system version and configuration.
- Installed software and services.
- Current security posture.
- Resource utilization and performance.
- Backup configuration (or lack thereof).
- Network and firewall configuration.
Step 2 — Baseline Configuration
Based on the assessment, we apply baseline optimizations and hardening:
- Update the operating system and all packages.
- Configure the firewall with appropriate rules.
- Harden SSH access.
- Install and configure monitoring agents.
- Set up Fail2ban or similar intrusion prevention.
- Configure automated backups if not already in place.
- Apply performance optimizations based on your workload.
Step 3 — Documentation
We document:
- Current server configuration.
- Installed services and their versions.
- Any issues found during assessment.
- Changes made during baseline configuration.
- Recommendations for future improvements.
Step 4 — Handoff
You receive a summary of the onboarding results, including:
- What was assessed and what was changed.
- Any recommendations for your review.
- How to request changes and support going forward.
Providing Server Access
For our team to manage your server, we need appropriate access:
- SSH access — We will use SSH key authentication. Our team may add a management SSH key to your server.
- Dashboard access — We manage some aspects through the Data Mammoth dashboard.
- Root or sudo access — Required for system-level administration.
Requesting Specific Services
Once managed services are active, request specific tasks through support tickets:
Examples of Requests
- "Please install and configure Nginx with PHP 8.2 on my server."
- "Can you set up automated daily database backups?"
- "Please review and optimize our MySQL configuration."
- "We need help troubleshooting a slow response time issue."
- "Please install an SSL certificate for
example.com."
How to Submit a Request
Our team will respond according to the priority level. See Understanding Ticket Priority & SLA.
Cancelling Managed Services
If you decide managed services are no longer needed:
After cancellation:
- Our team stops active monitoring and management.
- Monitoring agents may remain installed (you can remove them).
- All configurations and optimizations remain in place.
- You become responsible for all server administration.
